Teaching designers to make
RMIT University Lecturer - Industrial Design | MDIT | Interior Design
For 11 years, I’ve taught across RMIT’s Industrial Design, MDIT and Interior Design programs helping students move from ideas to reality.
The challenge
Design education has a gap: students can be strong conceptually, but struggle to translate ideas into buildable, testable artefacts, especially under time pressure, limited budgets, and unfamiliar tools.
Scale
11 years / 1,300 students taught
Multi-disciplinary delivery
Design methods to process to making
Credits
Assorted images of previous graduates' work, including Timothy Ottoway (Project Flock) and Nick Perillio (Zenyth, Morph)
Students finish semesters with prototypes that don’t just look good, they work, communicate intent, and survive scrutiny.
